Quiet Luxury for a Destination Resort

MMT Acoustix was chosen to deliver acoustic and sound isolation solutions for the luxurious Soneva Fushi Resort. The project involved custom treatment for open restaurants, spa rooms, and private lounges, balancing aesthetics with performance.

Planning, supply, and execution were well-coordinated across departments. What was the acoustic brief at Soneva Fushi?

Why does each zone need a different treatment?

Because absorption, isolation and impact control are different functions. The restaurant needed absorption to break the cycle of diners raising their voices. The gym needed absorption plus impact and vibration control. The spa needed isolation, which is mass in the construction and sealed doors, not panels on the wall.

What was used in the restaurant?

BassBloc sound absorbers positioned for echo control, canvas-printed Echsorbix felt panels over the BassBloc so the treatment reads as artwork, and pastel-toned wood wool panels to match the natural interior palette.

Why is felt over a BassBloc backing more absorptive than felt alone?

Because absorption depends on depth as well as material. PET felt on its own is NRC 0.30 at 9 mm rising to 0.60 at 24 mm. A 9 mm felt panel over a 20 mm BassBloc backing reaches NRC 0.90, because the backing adds the depth that the thin felt facing cannot provide.

Can acoustic treatment be made to look like part of the design?

That was the requirement here. Canvas-printed felt, wood wool in the resort's colour palette and shaped panels let the absorption area be delivered as a finish rather than as visible equipment. Send the drawings, the room volumes and the target NRC or STC, and the system is specified against those figures with test reports issued alongside the supply.
