Engineered Isolation for a Luxury Banquet Hall

MMT Acoustix was commissioned by JW Marriott, Gurugram to design and supply a high-performance sound isolation system for its premium banquet hall, used for weddings, conferences and large-format events. The goal was clear: keep high-energy music and event noise contained within the hall while maintaining the hotel’s luxury ambience.

A multi-layer solution combining SoundBlanket® membranes, BassBloc® low-frequency absorbers and premium Turkish rugs was engineered across walls and floors. The result is a banquet space that can host powerful events without disturbing guest rooms and adjacent hotel areas, delivering a truly five-star acoustic experience.

Scope
Wall & floor sound isolation and acoustic treatment for hospitality use
Objective
Prevent event noise transfer to guest rooms and hotel areas while preserving luxury ambience.
Key Products Used
  • SoundBlanket® 4 mm – wall soundproofing membrane
  • BassBloc® 40 mm – low-frequency sound absorber in wall build-up
  • SoundBlanket® 2.5 mm – floor impact noise isolation layer
  • Premium Turkish rugs – luxury finish with added absorption
Focus
Hospitality / Sound Isolation / Banquets & Events

01 / The brief

Containing High-Energy Events in a Luxury Hotel

The JW Marriott banquet hall regularly hosts weddings, corporate events and celebrations, generating high sound levels. The challenge was two-fold:

JW Marriott Gurugram banquet hall soundproofing and acoustics
  • Noise Containment

Prevent loud music, bass and crowd noise from travelling into guest rooms and adjacent hotel operations.

  • Luxury Experience

Maintain a premium acoustic and visual experience inside the hall that aligns with the hotel’s five-star positioning.

02 / The approach

Multi-Layer Sound Isolation Tailored for Hospitality

Create a fully contained acoustic environment within the banquet hall so that weddings and high-energy events can run at full intensity with negligible disturbance to adjoining rooms and corridors, in line with JW Marriott’s luxury hospitality standards.

  • 01

    Wall Sound Isolation

    • Installed SoundBlanket® 4 mm behind wall finishes to block airborne sound.
    • Added BassBloc® 40 mm within the wall build-up to control low-frequency transmission.
    • Assemblies designed to integrate seamlessly with the hall’s interior finishes.
  • 02

    Floor Soundproofing

    • Applied SoundBlanket® 2.5 mm across the floor as an impact noise isolation layer.
    • Finished with premium Turkish rugs to add both visual luxury and additional absorption.
    • System helps reduce footfall noise and bass vibrations travelling to lower levels.
  • 03

    Hospitality-Grade Detailing

    • All materials selected for durability, safety and compatibility with hotel operations.
    • Sound isolation layers concealed behind finishes for a clean, premium visual language.
    • Co-ordinated with site teams to ensure minimal disruption during installation.

03 / Products and Installation

High-Performance Soundproofing Behind Luxury Interiors

  • SoundBlanket® 4 mm – Walls

Ultra-slim soundproof membrane installed behind wall finishes to significantly reduce airborne sound transfer from event audio and crowd noise.

  • BassBloc® 40 mm – Walls

High-density low-frequency absorber integrated into the wall build-up to tackle bass-heavy music, subwoofer energy and structural resonance.

  • SoundBlanket® 2.5 mm – Floor

Flexible soundproofing layer across the floor to reduce impact noise, footfall sound and vibration transfer into adjoining areas and levels.

  • Premium Turkish Rugs

High-end rugs used as the visible finish, complementing the banquet’s interior design while contributing secondary absorption and comfort underfoot.

04 / Outcome

Events at Full Volume, Guests at Full Comfort

  • Effective Sound Containment

Event music and speech are effectively contained within the banquet hall, with negligible transfer to surrounding guest rooms and hotel zones.

  • Guest Comfort & Privacy

Zero disturbance reported in adjacent areas during high-energy functions, supporting a consistent five-star guest experience across the property.

  • Luxury-Compatible Acoustics

All acoustic layers are concealed within the architecture, preserving the hotel’s premium finishes while delivering engineered sound isolation.

Frequently Asked Questions

What was the acoustic brief at JW Marriott, Gurugram?

Contain a banquet hall used for weddings, corporate events and large-format functions so that music, bass and crowd noise do not reach guest rooms and adjacent hotel operations, while keeping the acoustic and visual experience inside the hall to a five-star standard.

What was installed?

SoundBlanket 4 mm at STC 34 behind the wall finishes as the airborne barrier, BassBloc 40 mm at NRC 0.95 within the wall build-up for low-frequency control, and SoundBlanket 2.5 mm across the floor.

Why is a banquet hall mainly a low-frequency problem?

Because event sound systems put most of their energy below 125 Hz. Those wavelengths are long, they pass through light construction easily, and they travel through the building structure to rooms nowhere near the hall. Standard partitions and surface panels do very little to them.

Why treat the floor as well as the walls?

Because in a hotel the banquet hall usually sits above or below occupied space. Bass and footfall enter the slab and radiate into rooms below. The floor membrane damps the deck so that path is closed alongside the walls.

Can this be retrofitted into an operating hotel?

Yes, and it usually is, since the membranes sit behind finishes rather than within the structure. Work is normally phased around the event calendar. Send the drawings, the room volumes and the target NRC or STC, and the system is specified against those figures with test reports issued alongside the supply.

Who manufactured the banquet hall isolation system?

MMTPL (Mahabir Multi Tech Private Limited) manufactures the full range at its Palwal plant in Haryana, India, and supplies architects, consultants and turnkey contractors in India and 25+ export markets.
