- Raw Paintable Boards
Ideal when the architect or interior designer prefers on-site painting or texture finishes.
- Substrates: Century® MDF / HDF / HDHMR.

Are HDHMR panels themselves acoustic, or do they only act as a finish?
HDHMR, HDF and MDF panels are mainly structural and visual finish materials. They provide a smooth, durable surface and can contribute some damping, but the main acoustic performance comes from what is installed behind them – such as SoundBlanket® MLV, BassBloc®, PET felt panels and insulation layers.
Why do you recommend only Century® MDF, HDF, HDHMR and plywood?
We promote and work with Century® substrates because they offer consistent quality, density, bonding and dimensional stability – all critical when boards are used as the final skin over multi-layer acoustic systems. This reduces the risk of warping, delamination and surface defects over time.
What thickness should we choose for different applications?
For typical wall panelling, 12–16 mm works well. For robust areas, doors or partitions, 18–24 mm may be recommended. Thinner boards like 8 mm are used in specific design details or as secondary layers. Final thickness is always decided based on acoustic build-up, framing and design loads.
Are fire-rated HDHMR / MDF boards available for auditoriums and public buildings?
Yes. Fire-rated boards can be specified on demand for projects where the consultant, code or authority requires enhanced fire performance. We coordinate the substrate selection with your project team and support with relevant documentation.
Can HDHMR panels be used with grooved or patterned designs?
Yes. HDHMR and MDF are ideal for CNC routing and grooving. Many projects combine concealed SoundBlanket® and BassBloc® systems behind grooved wooden panels to achieve both aesthetics and tuned acoustic behaviour. Groove depth, spacing and pattern are customised as per design.
How is the HDHMR layer fixed over SoundBlanket® and BassBloc®?
Typically, acoustic layers are fixed on the structural wall or framing. A secondary framework (wood or metal) is created to carry the HDHMR boards, ensuring that screws and fasteners do not create unnecessary sound bridges. We share recommended fixing details and sections as part of the system design.
Can local carpenters install these panels, or do we need a specialist team?
Most HDHMR installations can be carried out by experienced local carpenters, provided they follow the acoustic system drawings and fixing instructions. Our role is to make the build-up simple, logical and compatible with standard site tools, so that your local teams can execute smoothly.
How do we start specifying HDHMR panels for our project?
You can share your room sizes, drawings and the type of space (studio, home theatre, auditorium, office, etc.) through the Get a Quote page. What is an HDHMR board?
High-density high-moisture-resistant fibreboard. It is denser than MDF and holds screws and CNC detail better, which is why it is used as the substrate under slat, fluted and perforated acoustic panels.
Who manufactures HDHMR acoustic substrates in India?
MMTPL (Mahabir Multi Tech Private Limited) manufactures it at its Palwal plant in Haryana, India, and supplies architects, interior designers and turnkey contractors in India and 25+ export markets.
What thicknesses and sizes are available?
12, 15, 16 and 18 mm on a 2440 x 1220 mm board, plus or minus 5%.
Is HDHMR fire rated?
An FR grade is available on request. The board is EN 13986 E1 for formaldehyde emission.
Why use HDHMR instead of MDF for acoustic panels?
Moisture resistance and screw holding. MDF swells and loses grip in humid conditions; HDHMR keeps its dimension, which matters when a slat panel is machined to a tolerance and fixed to a channel.
