Mahabir. The manufacturer behind MMT Acoustix® and seven more acoustic brands

Every company has a date of incorporation. Some stories begin long before one.

Ours begins with a name. Mahabir Prasad Jain was our grandfather. Over the decades his name stopped being only a family name and became the thing the business was measured against.

Long before MMT Acoustix existed, before the factory, the acoustic lab, the export markets or the online store, there was a small automobile spare-parts shop in Agra. Buy well, understand the market, build relationships, sell honestly. Four generations later the products have changed completely and that method has not.

For an architect, consultant or contractor the relevance is narrow and practical: the company specifying your acoustic system also manufactures it, has been working with foams, felts and membranes for over fifty years, and publishes the test data behind every figure it quotes.

01 / The story

Four generations, one habit: learn the material first

  1. 1968Agra

A shop, and a name to live up to

A single automobile spare-parts shop serving the replacement market. Purely trading. Nothing about it suggested what would follow.

  2. 1973Two machines

    From trading to making

Travelling across India put Mahabir Prasad Jain in front of a material still new to the country: polyurethane foam. He traded it, then stopped trading and started making, combining it with high-quality fabrics to manufacture two-wheeler and cycle saddle covers.

Two sewing machines became ten, then fifty. In 1979 the company became an ancillary saddle manufacturer to Hero Cycles, its first relationship with a large manufacturer. By 1980 there were roughly two hundred machines.

If you understand a material deeply enough, you can create something more valuable from it.
Mahabir Prasad Jain, 1978
  1. 1986New Delhi

    Leaving behind what already worked

The saddle-cover business was running at real volume and continuing would have been the easy decision. S. K. Jain wanted more technical products and more specialised manufacturing, so the family left Agra for New Delhi and a small apartment in Karol Bagh. Over time he acquired the entire block where Mahabir Multi Tech stands today.

We are leaving the city, our past, our relations, our comfort to start something big. I can only do this if you are ready to burn. There is no way back.
Mahabir Prasad Jain to S. K. Jain, before the family left Agra, 1986
  1. 1991Filtration

Learn the technology before entering the market

A Belgian company was supplying air-filtration media made from reticulated foam into India. Rather than enter the market without understanding it, S. K. Jain learned the manufacturing process and the application first. Indian production began in 1991 on raw materials imported from Belgium and the United Kingdom.

By 1995 the company was an OEM supplier to Varroc and Kiran Udyog, at that time the largest air filter manufacturers in the country.

  2. 2003Acoustics

The conversation that changed the company

Around 2000, meetings with Kirloskar and Sudhir Generators about air filters turned to a different problem in the genset industry: fire-rated acoustic foam. Unfamiliar territory, so the family did what it always did and learned the product.

Foam was imported from Turkey at first. Then the material, its performance and its manufacturing were studied, and Indian production began in 2003. Between 2003 and 2009, under Ritu Jain and S. K. Jain, the company became a major supplier to the genset sector. The foundation for MMT Acoustix had been laid without anyone calling it that.

  3. 2014MMT Acoustix

Taking acoustics past the factory floor

Sonit Jain joined in 2011 and inherited an established business with customers, manufacturing and industrial acoustics. He also inherited a pattern: every generation had taken what already existed and asked what could be built next.

The question was whether professional acoustics could move beyond generator enclosures and plant rooms, and whether products understood only by consultants could be specified, bought and installed by everyone else. MMT Acoustix launched in 2014, built to run project supply and direct sales together, with specifications published openly rather than held back.

  4. TodayPalwal

Eight brands, one plant, one accountable supplier

Absorption, isolation, low frequency, timber, textile and adhesive are all manufactured in house, which is why thicknesses, densities, colours and sizes can be made to a project requirement instead of a catalogue.

02 / The method

Four moves, repeated for four generations

Saddle covers, filtration media, acoustic foam and PET felt have nothing in common as products. The sequence that produced them does.

  1. 01

    Find a problem

A gap that needs a fix, and that helps people once it is fixed.

  2. 02

    Understand it properly

Never assume. Go to the root of why the problem exists at all.

  3. 03

    Learn the material

What actually solves it. Durability, market acceptance, availability at scale.

  4. 04

    Build the solution

Made in India, rightly priced, consistent in quality, optimised to scale.

03 / The portfolio

Eight brands, one method

One product was never going to define MMT. Each brand began with a problem someone brought to us, in an industry that had learned to live with it.

  • MMT Acoustix®2014

The founding brand, and the one that made acoustic treatment buyable by anyone. Profiled foam, panels and complete room kits, with specifications published openly so a customer can decide for themselves.

Recording studios / Home theatre / Podcast rooms / Offices

  • Echsorbix®2017

PET acoustic felt, developed when absorption started being asked to look like a finish. Solid panels, grooved and shaped profiles, baffles and ceiling clouds, in a colour range wide enough for a designer to work from.

    Offices / Hospitality / Education / Retail

  • SoundaXe®2018

Architectural timber, for projects where the wall is the design. Slat systems, fluted panels and diffusers built on acoustic backing, so the performance is carried by something an architect would specify on looks alone.

Architecture / Luxury interiors / Auditoriums / Studios

  • SoundBlanket®2019

Mass loaded vinyl, for the problems absorption cannot solve. Where a panel controls sound inside a room, this is the layer that stops it passing through a wall, a floor or a ceiling to the room beyond.

    Construction / Hotels / Studios / Industrial

  • Vindo®2020

Launched mid-pandemic, when every bedroom and dining table became an office. Curtains treat windows, doors and glass without construction, permission or a contractor.

Work from home / Residential / Hospitality / Offices

  • BassBloc®2022

Low-frequency absorption, the part of the problem most treatment misses. Dense boards and corner traps for the bass energy that passes straight through foam and collects in the corners of a room.

Studios / Home theatre / Gensets / Industrial

  • Turbo SR®2024

Developed because the installation kept failing before the product did. A spray adhesive built for the weight and surface of acoustic materials, so panels stay where they are put.

    Installers / Contractors / DIY

  • WDWL2026

Wood wool, for rooms that take a beating. Rugged textured absorption for spaces where a felt panel would not survive the first year, finished to be left exposed.

Education / Auditoriums / Sports halls / Industrial

Monthly capacity, by line

Standing output at the Palwal plant. Larger programmes are scheduled against a release plan rather than a single dispatch.

04 / On a project

What the manufacturing actually gets you

Specification, supply and accountability sit with one company rather than a chain of traders.

See the test reports

  • Made to the requirement. PET panels run 5 mm to 24 mm and 1400 to 3600 GSM, with custom colours and fabrication, because the line is ours.
  • Capacity that holds a programme. Roughly 10 containers a month of OEM and white-label output, on top of the line capacities listed above.
  • Documented performance. Third-party absorption, transmission and fire reports published per product, with batch traceability from sample to bulk supply.
  • Specified against drawings. The technical team works from room volumes and target NRC or STC figures, and says so when a system is over-designed.
  • Export-ready. India and 25+ export markets, with delivered projects across the Middle East, Europe, the United States, Southeast Asia and Africa.

Frequently Asked Questions

When was MMT Acoustix founded?

Mahabir Multi Tech Private Limited launched MMT Acoustix in 2014. The company behind it goes back further: a trading business from 1968, foam manufacturing from 1973, reticulated foam filtration media from 1991 and industrial acoustics from 2003. MMT Acoustix took that acoustic manufacturing beyond industrial enclosures into projects and direct sales.

What does MMTPL manufacture in-house?

The full range, at its Palwal plant in Haryana, across eight brands: MMT Acoustix foam, Echsorbix PET felt, SoundaXe wooden panels, SoundBlanket mass loaded vinyl, Vindo acoustic and soundproof curtains, BassBloc low-frequency absorbers, Turbo SR adhesive and WDWL wood wool. In-house manufacturing is why thicknesses, colours and sizes can be made to project requirement.

Does MMT Acoustix have its own testing facility?

Yes. There is an in-house R&D lab used for development and batch checking, alongside third-party laboratory testing for the certified figures published against each product. Absorption is tested to ASTM C423 and EN ISO 354, transmission loss to ASTM E90, and surface burning to ASTM E84 with EN 13501-1 where a European classification is specified.

What is the difference between MMT Acoustix and MMTPL?

MMTPL, Mahabir Multi Tech Private Limited, is the manufacturing company. MMT Acoustix is its first and best-known brand. Purchase orders, tender documents and certificates are issued in the MMTPL name, which is what a consultant or contractor needs for compliance.

Which markets does MMTPL supply?

India and 25+ export markets, with delivered projects across the Middle East, Europe, the United States, Southeast Asia and Africa, covering hospitality, corporate, education, industrial, defence and public infrastructure.

Does MMT Acoustix sell to individuals as well as projects?

Yes. The DIY range that the company started with is still sold direct through the online store, while project supply goes through the technical and estimation team, who specify against drawings rather than sell from a catalogue.
