Frequently Asked Questions

Who manufactures mass loaded vinyl in India?

MMTPL (Mahabir Multi Tech Private Limited) manufactures SoundBlanket MLV at its Palwal plant in Haryana, India, and supplies it in India and 25+ export markets, including white-label and OEM supply.

What STC does SoundBlanket achieve?

STC 30 at 2.5 mm and STC 34 at 4 mm. A 6 mm grade is produced and its test report is available on request. STC rises with mass, which is why thickness is the main lever.

What is mass loaded vinyl made of?

A polymeric resin compound loaded with an inert mineral filler, at a density of 2100 kg/m³. That density is what does the blocking: 2.5 mm weighs 5.25 kg/m², 4 mm weighs 8.4 kg/m² and 6 mm weighs 12.6 kg/m².

Can MLV be left exposed?

No. It is a blocking layer, not a finish. It must be fully covered by gypsum, wooden panelling or an acoustic finish. Left exposed it is vulnerable to damage and does nothing for reverberation inside the room.

What is the difference between MLV and acoustic foam?

They solve opposite problems. MLV adds mass and blocks sound passing through a wall, floor or ceiling. Acoustic foam absorbs sound reflecting inside a room. A studio needs both: MLV in the build-up, foam or felt on the surface.

What sheet sizes are available?

8 x 4 ft (2.4 x 1.2 m), 16 x 4 ft (5 x 1.2 m) and 32 x 4 ft (10 x 1.2 m). Custom thickness from 1 mm to 10 mm is manufactured to project requirement.
